Atul Ambekar

Atul Ambekar is a professor at the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He has been a member of many international and national expert bodies in the field of drug addiction including the Expert Advisory Panel on Drug Dependence (WHO, Geneva), Strategic Advisory Group on IDU and HIV (United Nations), and the National Consultative Committee on Drug Demand Reduction and Rehabilitation (Government of India). He has been providing expertise and consultancy to UNODC, WHO, UNAIDS and INCB. He also coordinated the field trials of “ICD-11 Disorders due to Substance Use and Addictive Behaviours” and “International Standards for Treatment of Drug Use Disorders” for WHO in India. He has published several research papers, practice guidelines and training manuals in the field of addiction psychiatry. He is the member, board of directors, International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM), the founding Secretary General of the Addiction Psychiatry Society of India (APSI) and the Ex Chairperson of Addictive Disorder Specialty, Indian Psychiatric Society.
