Juan Francisco Flores Vázquez is a Psychiatrist with M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. He completed an advanced specialty in dementia at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery. Dr. Flores participated as an expert consultant in the revision of the diagnostic requirements for neurocognitive disorders in the ICD-11. He currently teaches the topics of psychopharmacology, psychogeriatrics, cognitive aging, and dementia at the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, the National Institute of Psychiatry, and the Fray Bernardino Álvarez Psychiatric Hospital. He works as a researcher in medical sciences at the National Institute of Geriatrics, Mexico, where he coordinates research protocols aimed at improving mental health in aging and the timely diagnosis of neurocognitive disorders.
